Vishnu Manchu’s long-cherished project ‘Kannappa’ continues its steady run at the box office. Released on Friday, the film garnered ₹9.35 crore on its opening day and added another ₹7 crore on Saturday, bringing its two-day domestic total to ₹16.35 crore. With strong momentum, the film is poised to cross the ₹20 crore mark by the end of its first weekend.

Impressive Occupancy Across Regions

According to Sacnilk, the film has performed exceptionally well in Telugu-speaking states, where it recorded an impressive 44.42% occupancy on Saturday. The response grew throughout the day — from 27% in morning shows to a robust 58.54% during night screenings.

In Tamil Nadu, where the film has no significant regional connection, ‘Kannappa’ still managed to draw attention thanks to its pan-India appeal and star-studded cast. The state registered a 19.84% overall occupancy, with notable increases in afternoon (23.41%) and night shows (27.68%).

The Hindi version of the film also witnessed gradual improvement, clocking 17.37% occupancy overall, which surged to nearly 29% during night shows, suggesting growing interest and word-of-mouth traction.

Malayalam-speaking regions, however, showed relatively modest engagement with an overall 5.81% occupancy, though night show numbers saw a slight uptick.

Star Power and Storyline Drive Appeal

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, ‘Kannappa’ is a mythological action-drama based on the legend of a tribal hunter who becomes one of Lord Shiva’s most celebrated devotees. The narrative centers around Thinnadu, whose ultimate act of devotion involves offering his own eyes to a bleeding Shiva Lingam.

The film features Vishnu Manchu in the lead, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Madhoo, Preity Mukhundhan, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmaji, and Brahmanandam. Special appearances by Prabhas (as Rudra), Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohanlal have added to the film’s buzz.

Critics and audiences alike have praised Vishnu Manchu’s heartfelt portrayal, particularly in the emotionally charged second half. Prabhas’s appearance as Rudra has been highlighted as one of the film’s standout moments, bringing a sense of divine serenity and gravitas to the screen.

Production and Music

Shot extensively in New Zealand, ‘Kannappa’ features visuals by cinematographer Sheldon Chau and a stirring score by Stephen Devassy. The film spans approximately 3 hours and 3 minutes, delivering a theatrical experience steeped in devotion, drama, and visual spectacle.

Released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, the pan-India film is building momentum as positive word of mouth spreads, particularly in core southern markets.

Vishnu Manchu’s Message

On the day of the film’s release, Vishnu Manchu took to social media, expressing heartfelt gratitude:

“This moment… I've waited for it my entire life. Hearing the overwhelming love pouring in from overseas premieres and early morning shows in India fills my heart with gratitude. #Kannappa is no longer just my film—it’s yours now. #HarHarMahadev”

With Sunday collections yet to be reported, Kannappa seems well on its way to becoming one of the more successful mythological releases of recent times.
